Services to Enhance Potential

Dearborn, MI

We are creating a community-based location for our art studio and art gallery, as well as a cafe. This highlights both STEPs Culinary Program and our Progressive Art Studio Collective. We are creating opportunities for students who graduate from our advanced culinary program to so an internship prior to competitive, integrated employment. In addition, we are creating a space for artists to create their artwork, as well as inviting the public into the gallery to see the work and purchase pieces that appeal to them. Our social enterprise will support individual with intellectual/developmental disabilities to pursue their goals towards employment.

While our original plan to purchase a pasty shop fell through, we gained a lot of skills in how to do effective business planning, develop marketing strategies and conduct feasibility studies that will be utilized as we engage in our next endeavor.

We made a great connection with another social enterprise in this cohort that we are going to partner with to help them with their manufacturing needs. This type of opportunity is a win-win as we can provide the labor and space for manufacturing, and they provide the materials and expertise. Our members will be learning a new transferable skill and will be working in a community-based setting.
