The Growth Initiative

Detroit, MI

The Growth Initiative exists to close the gap between lived experience and economic opportunity. Too often, community members share barriers through surveys or call centers, but that insight rarely converts into skill-building or income pathways. We transform real community data into training tasks, portfolio-building experiences, and paid opportunities—while also using aggregated insights to design in-house programs that address the very barriers people report.

Our current ask is connection: introductions to Detroit-based nonprofits and small businesses willing to pilot our Capacity Lab model by posting short-term, low-risk paid projects for trained community advocates.

Participating in the Social Enterprise Collective Cohort has helped me refine The Growth Initiative into a clear, sustainable model that aligns community voice with workforce development. The cohort challenged me to move from broad ideas about mutual aid and resource navigation into a structured system that turns insights into measurable action, capacity-building, and revenue-generating partnerships. It strengthened both my confidence and my operational clarity.
